چکیده

Experiments were conducted to study the nodular metabolism, in order to draw comparisons between nitrogen fixation, carbon fixation and ammonia assimilation in nodule cytosol of desi (CSG 8962, DCP 92-3) and kabuli (CSG 9651, BG 267) genotypes of chickpea. Maximum acetylene reduction activity (ARA) was observed in CSG 9651 and minimum in DCP 92-3.The specific activity of ammonia assimilating enzymes GS, GDH, GOGAT was less affected in the CSG 9651, CSG 8962 as compared to BG 267, DCP 92-3. GS activity was more tolerant of salinity than GOGAT and it limits ammonia assimilation under saline stress. Nodule phosphoenol pyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) activity was enhanced by salt stress and was clearly related to salt concentration. Chickpea genotypes tolerant to salt stress have better enzyme activities responsible for higher nodule nitrogen fixation.

Comparative Analysis of Kabuli Chickpea Transcriptome with Desi and Wild Chickpea Provides a Rich Resource for Development of Functional Markers

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an important crop legume plant with high nutritional value. The transcriptomes of desi and wild chickpea have already been sequenced. In this study, we sequenced the transcriptome of kabuli chickpea, C. arietinum (genotype ICCV2), having higher commercial value, using GS-FLX Roche 454 and Illumina technologies. The assemblies of both Roche 454 and Illumina datas...

An advanced draft genome assembly of a desi type chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an important pulse legume crop. We previously reported a draft genome assembly of the desi chickpea cultivar ICC 4958. Here we report an advanced version of the ICC 4958 genome assembly (version 2.0) generated using additional sequence data and an improved genetic map. This resulted in 2.7-fold increase in the length of the pseudomolecules and substantial reduct...

Preliminary Results on Evaluation of Chickpea, Cicer arietinum, Genotypes for Resistance to the Pulse Beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus

Abstract The chickpea, Cicer arietinum L. (Fabales: Fabaceae), seeds are vulnerable, both in the field and in storage, to attack by seed-beetles. Beetles of the genus Callosobruchus are major storage pests of chickpea crops and cause considerable economic losses. In the present study, a total of 11 chickpea genotypes including five 'kabuli' (Mexican white, Diyar, CA 2969, ILC 8617 and ACC 245) ...

Inheritance of natural seed-coat cracking in chickpea.

A spontaneous mutant with natural seed-coat cracking, designated "cracked seed-coat mutant (CSM)," was identified in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) from an F(2) population of a cross ICRISAT chickpea (ICC) 10301 × ICC 12430. The extent of seed-coat cracking (SCC) varied widely from a minute to several wide cracks. Seed coats showed cracks before seeds were fully developed and the plants had reac...

Platelet aggregation and anti-inflammatory effects of garden pea, Desi chickpea and Kabuli chickpea.

Inflammation is the natural body defense mechanism for the removal of injurious agents, necrosed cells and tissues from the body. This study was aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and platelet aggregation effects of three medicinal plants of Pakistan. Methanolic extract of garden pea inhibited arachidonic acid (AA)-induced platelet aggregation (IC50 = 35 microg/mL) and platelet activating ...
